So I got this HP L57042-001 pen for my 15-EU1073CL. it worked perfectly until the recent Microsoft update on August 16 2025. top button still works with the screenshot feature and the notes shortcut, but the drawing feature is not working anymore. I cannot find the ACTIVE PEN APP/program from HP. Please help.

Hi @rr072493,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand how important your HP Active Pen G3 is for your workflow, and we're here to help you get it working again on your HP ENVY x360 15-eu1073cl.

After the Windows Update on August 16, 2025, the pen’s top button functions (like screenshot and notes shortcut) still work, but drawing and writing input no longer respond. This typically indicates a disruption in the Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP) or driver configuration.

1. Update or Reinstall Pen Drivers

2. Reset Pen Settings in Windows

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
  • Ensure:
    • “Ignore touch input when using pen” is disabled
    • “Show visual effects” and “Show cursor” are enabled
  • Restart your PC after making changes.

3. Unpair and Reconnect the Pen

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices.
  • Remove the pen from the list.
  • Press and hold the top button on the pen for 5 seconds to enter pairing mode.
  • Reconnect it via Bluetooth.

4. Test in HP Recommended Apps

  • Try drawing in Microsoft WhiteboardOneNote, or Paint 3D.
  • If it works in one app but not others, the issue may be app-specific.

5. Roll Back the Windows Update (Optional)

If the issue began immediately after the update:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History > Uninstall Updates.
  • Uninstall the update dated August 16, 2025.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
