Hello!

Updated the BIOS on the HP 17-cn3155ng laptop to the latest version F.11. (the wi-fi module began to fall off periodically).
The problems with wi-fi went away, but the main monitor connected to the laptop, the Acer xv272u, stopped working in its native 2k resolution.
I also installed new drivers on the graphics card, and even reinstalled the OS, but the problem remained.

What to do?

Hey, sounds like the BIOS update fixed your Wi-Fi but broke proper support for 2K output on your external monitor, classic trade-off. Since you already reinstalled drivers and the OS, try forcing the resolution manually through Intel Graphics Command Center or CRU. SMM Panel, Also, test with a different cable or port (DisplayPort if possible), and consider rolling back to an older GPU driver from HP's site. If nothing helps, you could try flashing the previous BIOS version where the display worked fine.

Nothing is working, and I can't install the previous version of Bios

Yeah, classic BIOS trade-off fixes the Wi-Fi and breaks display output. I’ll try forcing the resolution with Intel Graphics Command Center or CRU like you suggested. Already swapped cables and tried different ports, so if that doesn’t help, I might roll back to the previous BIOS version.

Also, I’ve been using an SMM panel to follow a few support channels and forums — sometimes you catch updates or fixes quicker that way. Appreciate the tips!

Hi! After updating your HP 17-cn3155ng to BIOS F.11, the Wi-Fi fix is great, but the Acer xv272u resolution issue likely comes from reset graphics settings. Try these steps:

  1. Update Intel chipset + GPU drivers directly from Intel (not just HP).

  2. In Device Manager, update the Acer xv272u monitor driver (Windows may have set it to generic).

  3. Use a certified HDMI 2.0/DisplayPort cable.

  4. If nothing works, consider rolling back the BIOS.

If you’re stuck, reaching out to HP support or a local IT service is smart — even professional movers in CT rely on specialists for BIOS/driver hiccups after updates.

It sounds like the BIOS update solved the Wi-Fi issue but introduced a conflict with display output. Since the Acer xv272u no longer runs in its native 2K resolution, this could be tied to the new BIOS limiting GPU scaling or EDID recognition. A few things you can try:

  1. Roll back to the previous BIOS version if possible — sometimes the “latest” isn’t the most stable for all hardware setups.

  2. In Device Manager, uninstall the display adapter and reinstall the driver directly from Intel/NVIDIA/AMD rather than just relying on Windows Update.

  3. Check the monitor’s on-screen settings and cable (try DisplayPort vs HDMI).

  4. Look into HP’s support page for any optional hotfixes related to display after BIOS F.11.

It’s a bit like running an Advertising Campaign, one small change can affect results across different channels. With BIOS and drivers, the same principle applies: syncing everything together matters. Just like using an SMM Panel to coordinate posts across platforms, keeping your BIOS, GPU drivers, and monitor firmware aligned should restore your resolution.

If none of that works, I’d suggest contacting HP support directly — they might already have a patch in testing.
