Dear HP Support Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to request assistance regarding an issue with my HP laptop (Model: HP Laptop 14-dq1xxx, Device ID: LAPTOP-HID67UOH). The WiFi on my laptop has stopped working, and I am unable to turn it on through the system settings or keyboard shortcuts.

I have attempted basic troubleshooting steps such as restarting the laptop and checking the network adapters, but the problem persists. Given that the WiFi function is critical for my daily work, I would appreciate your guidance on how to resolve this issue.

Please let me know what steps I should take or if any additional information is required.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your prompt response.

Best regards,

Hi @Jmcgill16

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We appreciate your inquiry. We're all doing well, thank you for asking! I hope everything is going smoothly for you, aside from the laptop issue you're experiencing.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

If the Wi-Fi on your laptop has stopped working and you can't turn it on through system settings or keyboard shortcuts, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Check Physical Wi-Fi Switch

  • Look for a Physical Switch: Some laptops have a physical switch or button to enable/disable Wi-Fi. Ensure it’s in the "On" position.

2. Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Function Key: Press the Fn key and the appropriate function key (usually one of the F1-F12 keys) that has the Wi-Fi symbol. This might toggle the Wi-Fi back on.

3. Network Settings

  1. Open Settings: Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Go to Network & Internet: Click on Network & Internet, then select Wi-Fi.
  3. Check for Options: Ensure that Wi-Fi is toggled to "On." If it's grayed out, it may indicate a hardware or driver issue.

4. Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager: Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Network Adapters: Expand the Network adapters section.
  3. Check Wi-Fi Adapter: Look for your Wi-Fi adapter (it may include terms like "Wireless" or "Wi-Fi"). If it has a yellow triangle, right-click it and select Update driver.
  4. Enable Device: If it's disabled, right-click and select Enable device.

5. Run the Network Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  2. Additional Troubleshooters: Click on Additional troubleshooters, then select Network Adapter and run the troubleshooter.

6. Reset Network Settings

  1. Open Settings: Go to Settings > Network & Internet.
  2. Status: Scroll down and click on Network reset.
  3. Reset Now: Click on Reset now. Note that this will remove all saved Wi-Fi networks and require you to reconnect.

7. Check Windows Updates

  1. Open Settings: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  2. Check for Updates: Install any pending updates, especially those related to network drivers.

8. BIOS Settings

  • Enter BIOS/UEFI: Restart your laptop and press the appropriate key (usually F2, F10, or Delete) to enter BIOS.
  • Check Wireless Settings: Ensure that the Wi-Fi is enabled in the BIOS settings.
  • Clikc on this link to update BIOS: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

9. Reinstall Wi-Fi Drivers

  1. Device Manager: In Device Manager, right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter and select Uninstall device.
  2. Reboot: Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the Wi-Fi driver

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
