Hi @samuel142

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the concern. When a battery stops charging beyond a certain percentage, it usually indicates either a calibration mismatch or a communication issue between the battery and system.

Let’s go through recommended steps to address this:

Check Battery Health in HP App

  • Open the HP App.
  • Go to Diagnostics > Power and Battery.
  • Run Battery Health Check and note the results. This will confirm if the battery is functioning within expected limits.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Press the power button and immediately tap Esc until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Select Component Tests > Power > Battery.
  • Run the test and record any error codes or failure IDs.

Update BIOS and Drivers

  • Visit HP’s official support page for your model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.
  • This ensures proper communication between the battery and system.
  • HP Support – Software and Driver Downloads

Perform Battery Calibration Again

  • Fully charge the battery to 100%.
  • Let it discharge completely until the laptop powers off.
  • Recharge it uninterrupted back to 100%.
  • This helps the system correctly read the battery’s charge levels.

Operate on AC Power Without Battery (Optional Check)

  • If the issue persists, remove the battery and run the laptop directly on AC power.
  • This helps confirm whether the battery itself is the limiting factor.

These steps are designed to isolate whether the battery is healthy or if the system requires updates to properly recognize charge levels. If the diagnostics show the battery is in good health but charging still halts, the BIOS update and calibration usually resolve the mismatch.

For reference, here is HP’s official guide on battery testing and calibration:

Take care, and have an amazing day!
