Hello,
I attempted to install the latest BIOS update - "sp163092.exe" from the official HP support page.
However, my device is an HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-es1xxx, and during the update process the system freezes, which is very risky and could potentially damage the laptop.
Could someone clarify why HP provides an update that appears to be incompatible or non-functional for this model? Is there an alternative safe BIOS version available for the 15-es1xxx series?
Additionally, how can I contact HP Support if my warranty has already expired? Are there official paid support options or recommended service centers for out-of-warranty devices?
Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi @MS360,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Updating the BIOS is a critical operation, and encountering issues during the update process can be concerning. Here are some steps and recommendations to address this issue with your HP ENVY x360 Convertible.
Verify Compatibility:
- Double-check the BIOS update file (sp163092.exe) on the HP Support website to ensure it is indeed listed for your specific model, HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-es1xxx.
Check Installation Instructions:
- Ensure that you are following the exact installation process recommended by HP. Sometimes additional steps or prerequisites must be met, such as ensuring the laptop is connected to power.
Try Updating via HP Support Assistant:
- If you haven’t already, try running the HP Support Assistant tool. It can automatically detect required updates for your specific system and attempt to apply them safely.
Clear Temporary Files:
- Sometimes leftover temporary files can interfere with installations. Use the Disk Cleanup utility to remove temporary files and try the update again.
Safe Mode and Clean Boot:
- Try booting into Safe Mode or performing a Clean Boot to ensure no other software conflicts with the update process.
Battery and Power Connection:
- Always ensure that your device is connected to a reliable power source and that the battery is sufficiently charged before attempting a BIOS update.
Alternative BIOS Versions:
- If the provided update still causes issues, it might be worth checking for previous versions or any alternate updates that HP offers for your device. Sometimes, reverting to an earlier version can resolve such problems.
It is crucial to ensure all steps are correctly followed to avoid any damage to your system during a BIOS update.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Dear Raj_05,
Thank you very much for your helpful advice regarding the BIOS installation process and for your kind response on the HP Support Community.
I’m glad to report that my laptop — HP ENVY x360 Convert 15-es1000ua (5B1Y6EA) — is still functioning properly, although it remains on the older BIOS version: F.17 Rev.A (sp157857.exe).
Could you kindly help me understand why I am unable to upgrade to the newer BIOS version — F.21 Rev.A (sp163092.exe)? According to the official HP support page (support.hp.com/us-en/drivers), this update appears to be compatible with my device.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could verify whether there might be any hidden compatibility issues or additional steps required to proceed with the update.
Thank you again for your time and support.
Best regards, MS360

Dear HP Support Team,
Thank you for your response. I would like to kindly point out that I have provided the serial number of my laptop via private message, as requested. However, in return I received a generic reply with standard instructions on how to install the BIOS update.
May I ask — what is the purpose of requesting the serial number??
I would greatly appreciate a more detailed clarification why I am unable to upgrade to the newer BIOS version — F.21 Rev.A (sp163092.exe)? According to the official HP support page (support.hp.com/us-en/drivers), this update appears to be compatible with my device.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could verify whether there might be any hidden compatibility issues or additional steps required to proceed with the update.
Thank you in advance for your attention and support.
Best regards,
MS360
