Hey ,

Your system already has the latest BIOS for this model. For the HP 17t-by000 series, HP does not publish separate Windows 11 BIOS files the BIOS is OS-agnostic. If F.72 is the newest version on the HP site, there is no newer BIOS being withheld for Windows 11.

The Secure Boot errors you’re seeing are not caused by an outdated BIOS. On this generation, Secure Boot usually fails because the factory keys are missing or not loaded, especially after a Windows upgrade. Enter BIOS (F10) → Boot Options → Load HP Factory Default Keys, then reboot and re-enable Secure Boot. This resolves most “Secure Boot failed” warnings on Windows 11.

There is also no confirmed requirement that Secure Boot will stop working in 2026 on supported hardware. If Secure Boot still shows errors after reloading keys, the issue is firmware configuration not a missing BIOS update.

The latest BIOS update for your notebook is F.73:

I tend to agree with STN3's statement that you should be able to run the W10 BIOS update file in W11.

I've updated the BIOS in W11 on my HP notebook and Desktop PCs that only had W10 driver support.

I can't 100% guarantee that you will have the same positive experience.

However, there is a way to update the BIOS in your notebook without even being in Windows.

Watch these videos for how to create and use a BIOS recovery flash drive with the above exe file.

You're very welcome.

I don't know what fixes or enhancements the BIOS update will provide.

All the release notes indicate is: 'Provides improved security.'

You can check to see if the update added support for the 2026 secure boot certificate changes by running this command:

Open PowerShell (run as admin) and run:

[System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI db).bytes) -match 'Windows UEFI CA 2023'
  • True: You have the new certificate (valid until 2053).
  • False: You are likely still on the 2011 certificate (expiring in 2026).
