Microsoft Windows 11

I updated my BIOS but while selecting the operating system, I selected Windows 10 because Windows 11 wasn't in the option. So ever since I installed it, my files are locked in the C: drive instead of on this PC where it was before. So, I think I'm logged into a temporary profile because of where my files are now instead of them being where they are meant to be but I'm not sure, so I stand to be corrected. So, I need an instruction or help that can make my laptop go back to the way it initially was.

Hello.

It doesn't matter that you selected Windows 10. HP just doesn't support Windows 11 with your laptop model. As long as the update was finished and your BIOS reports the latest version (1.62) you are all set on that department.

If I understood your problem, you are logged in with a temporary user profile in Windows. Windows alerts to this by showing a small notification when you are logged in with a temporary profile. Windows resorts to temporary profiles whenever the user's profile is corrupted - could be many reasons. BIOS updates do not affect user profiles in any way.

You can always go back to how the laptop was by restoring from a full backup to the laptop.

If you don't have backups, I would recommend moving your proper user profile folder from c:\users to e.g. c:\temp, and after reboot a new (empty) user profile should be created when you log in. Afterwards copy your data from c:\temp\<profile> to the new profile.

If you are using a Microsoft account, then all your documents, desktop and few other things should automatically resync to your the user profile, if you have previously chosen to sync your data.
