Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Context: I was given a laptop to repair and determined that it was the BIOS chip that was faulty.

After resoldering the BIOS chip (and EC controller) with a new one, the laptop was working fine and I managed to install windows and update it.

However, after restarting the laptop, the BIOS began to update and after completing the update, the laptop no longer turns on.

For lights, the charging button is blinking white and amber,

While the caps lock light remains on.

I'm thinking about reflashing the BIOS but I cannot find a downloadable BIOS software for the Elitebook 840 G8 on HP's website.

Any other potential solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi:

Below is the link to the latest BIOS update HP has for your notebook.

Driver - HP EliteBook 840 G8 Notebook PC | HP® Customer Support

There should be an option when you run the file to create a bootable BIOS update/recovery USB flash drive, as well as other methods to update the BIOS.

I have zipped up and attached the instructions for use after I ran the file and went to the C:\SWSetup\sp140426 folder to explore the contents of the unpacked exe file.

You're very welcome.

Please let us know if you were able to recover the BIOS using any of the options you were given.
