Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I can't start my computer. Hardware diagnostics checked out OK so I'm trying to update my BIOS. I followed the guidance at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629 but got stuck at step 7. According to step 3 number 2, the BIOS image name should match the system board ID. Unfortunately, there is no exact match available on the USB recovery drive. My system board ID is 81EB but the only ones on the recovery drive end in EC, ED, EF, F2, and F3. I'm pretty confident that the operating system on the laptop was Windows 10 (64-bit).

@mitsushima,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I see you are having issues related to Bios update. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Was there any changes made on the PC before the issue started?

Have you tried to install the Bios manually?

Did you try to update the Bios using HP Support Assistant?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to update the Bios, directly from our HP support website, using this link.

I've looked around and found this direct download file to update the BIOS:  (Click this to download and install)

If this does not thelp, then I would suggest here is to download and install the Bios using HP Support Assistant.

To download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

However, I must let you know that the BIOS update isn't normally installed unless you have any specific issues with the device, hence, I wanted to know if you have any issues as such that needs an update?

Let me know how that pans out

feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon,

followed by clicking on 'Accepted as Solution' as it would help the community gain more knowledge,

And Have a great day Ahead!
