How to disable auto-updates for omen gaming hub, the latest version is buggy, and the coolers are turned off

Hello,

The cooling profiles are managed through the Omen SDK service, and when OGH updates automatically, it can replace the service with a mismatched version, causing the fans to stay idle or default to BIOS-only control.

To stop Omen Gaming Hub from auto-updating (and stabilize the fan control), follow these steps depending on where the app was installed from.

If installed from Microsoft Store (most common)

  1. Open Microsoft Store → click your profile icon → App settings.

  2. Turn Off the toggle for App updates (this disables automatic updates for all Store apps).

    • If you prefer to keep other apps updated, instead:

      • Go to Library → find Omen Gaming Hub, and don’t click Update All.

      • Right-click on it and select Pause updates (if available in your Store version).

  3. Once disabled, uninstall Omen SDK Service (if the issue persists), then reinstall the last stable version manually.

    • Download older stable versions directly from HP’s SoftPaq library — e.g., SP147790 (as of recent stable builds).

If installed as a standalone desktop app (non-Store)

  1. Open Services (services.msc)

  2. Stop and disable the following services:

    • Omen Gaming Hub Background Service

    • Omen SDK Service

  3. Then navigate to:

    C:\Program Files\HP Inc\Omen Gaming Hub\Updater

Rename the Updater.exe file to something like Updater_backup.exe to block self-updating.

Best Practice

  • Keep the Omen SDK Service version matched with the OGH app version. Mismatched versions cause fan and lighting controls to fail.

  • If your fans remain off, open BIOS → Advanced → Thermal and set the fan policy to Always On. This ensures basic cooling even if OGH fails.
