Hi @Mln59,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion x360 14-cd2053cl keyboard backlight is no longer working. Let’s go through some steps to identify and fix the issue.

Check the keyboard backlight key

On HP Pavilion x360 laptops, the backlight is usually toggled with Fn + F5 (or the key with a backlight icon).

Press Fn + the backlight key a few times to cycle through brightness levels.

Confirm Windows settings allow keyboard backlight

Go to Settings > Devices > Typing and look for any keyboard backlight options (some models allow auto-off after inactivity).

Make sure the keyboard backlight is not set to 0 brightness or disabled.

Check BIOS settings

Restart the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F10 to enter BIOS/UEFI.

Look under System Configuration > Action Keys / Keyboard Backlight and ensure it is enabled.

Save and exit BIOS.

Update keyboard and chipset drivers

Go to HP Support > Software & Drivers and download the latest:

HP System Software/Keyboard driver

Intel Chipset driver

Install and reboot.

Power reset the laptop

Turn off the laptop and unplug it from power.

Hold the power button for 30–40 seconds to drain residual power.

Plug it back in and turn on the laptop.

Check for Windows updates

Sometimes Windows updates fix issues with keyboard backlight control.

Go to Settings > Windows Update and install any pending updates.

Test in BIOS or HP Diagnostics

If the backlight does not turn on even in BIOS or diagnostics, it may indicate a hardware issue with the backlight or keyboard ribbon.

I hope this helps.
