Hello,

I'm having an issue changing the backlit keyboard timer.  When I initially booted and ran my system, the backlit keyboard was always on.  Now, whenever I'm on my system, the backlit keyboard turns off after about 10 seconds or so of not using it.  It's very distracting and I would like to set it to at least a minute.

I cannot find anywhere to change these options, and when I searched for support, HP said to tap into my advanced options tab in BIOS.  However, there is no advanced option tab in BIOS at all.  The system is only a couple days old and I can't imagine that the BIOS is corrupted...I'm thinking it was set up this way purposely.  Is there anyway to modify the backlit keyboard options at all?  Or do the options just change by themselves and there is nothing I can do about it?

The BIOS in your computer is not corrupt.

The Advanced section in the BIOS that includes the backlit keyboard timer setup is available on commercial / business class machines.

Consumer grade notebook models, of which your system is one, do not normally include the Advanced section / keyboard timeout option.

I cannot explain why when you initially used the computer that the backlit keyboard stayed "on" .  I am not saying it did not happen, I am saying I cannot explain the behavior.

In general, and there might be exceptions, business class computers offer the Advanced BIOS options, including (on those models that include the backlit keyboard feature) controlling the backlit keyboard timeout.

Dragon-Fur,

So is it the case that I cannot change the timer settings on my PC?

True.

If the option is not supported, I know of no way to circumvent the limitation.

I dislike saying "No" - it is not popular and sometimes we are vilified for our trouble.  Smiling.

DragonFur,

I appreciate the response and I understand.  It's not your fault, it's a bad design.
