HP 17 in 6 years old has a bulging battery

@merrimacriver59,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your HP 17 battery lasted for six years which is actually not bad at all: generally speaking, the actual physical hardware lifespan of a typical lithium-ion HP battery is about 2 to 4 years, which equals roughly 300 to 1,000 full charge cycles. After this timeframe, chemical degradation will cause the battery capacity to drop to about 80% or less, resulting in noticeably shorter unplugged runtimes.

Since your battery is bulging, which can cause damage to your laptop such as your keyboard, remove the battery as soon as possible because in addition to risking warping your laptop, it may cause a fire hazard.

If you give me the full laptop model, I can suggest a replacement purchase option.

Kind Regards,
