I've had this HP laptop (14s-dq2xxx) since August 2023 and it has decided to, when charging, be stuck at 99% on the icon in the bottom right hand corner. I used it for an hour unplugged and it still tells me I'm at 99%, which I know isn't true. I've tried restarting it and doing any updates but that hasn't changed anything. What else can I do?

@BlueBird131, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Ah, the classic stuck battery percentage issue—annoying but fixable! Here’s what you can do to recalibrate your battery and get accurate readings again:

Reset the Battery Driver

Unplug the charger and shut down the laptop.

Press Win + X → Device Manager → Expand Batteries.

Right-click on both:

Microsoft AC Adapter

Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

Select Uninstall device (don’t worry, they’ll reinstall after a restart).

Shut down the laptop completely.

Perform a Power Reset

Unplug the charger.

Hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.

Plug in the charger, but don’t turn it on yet; let it charge for 30 minutes.

Turn it on and check if the percentage updates correctly.

Battery Calibration (If Still Stuck)

Charge to 100% (or MAX) and leave it plugged in for 2 more hours after reaching full.

Unplug and use the laptop until it fully drains and shuts down.

Charge it back to 100% without turning it on.

Once fully charged, turn it on and check if the issue is fixed.

If the problem persists, try running HP’s Battery Check in HP Support Assistant to see if it detects any issues.

Additionally, use the HP Hardware diagnostic tool to check for any hardware issues and perform a battery check.

Let me know how it goes! 😊

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
