HP ProBook 450 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After I updated Windows 10 fall creators update to build 16299.98, updated BIOS to version 01.08 Rev.A and installed the latest Intel Management Engine driver and its firmware update on my laptop, the battery remaining time stopped showing. Before the updates, it was only displaying when I hover the mouse cursor over the battery icon on the taskbar but not on the popup that displays after clicking the battery icon on the taskbar. After the updates, the time no longer shows when I hover the mouse cursor over the battery icon , it only displays the percentage remaining as shown below

and it still doesnt display the time on the popup like it used to display on Windows 10 Anniversary Update and earlier versions of Windows 10 as shown below

I tried resetting the BIOS but it did not work. Please help me identify if it is a bug within windows of an issue within the BIOS or firmware

Hello TonyThuitai,

As I understand you need the battery remaining time as its not showing up

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you change power plan settings?

Have you enabled the option under BIOS?

While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:,

Enabling remaining battery time can be done and will take less than a minute:

  1. Restart the PC
  2. Rapidly hit the ESC key before the HP logo appears
  3. From the menu choose F10 BIOS Setup
  4. Use the right arrow key to tab over to System Configuration
  5. Choose Battery Remaining Time and hit Enter
  6. Select Enabled
  7. Hit F10 to save and exit BIOS

The device should then boot as normal.

This time once Windows 10 boots up the remaining battery time will be available from the battery task-bar.

Note, however, that it will take some time for the estimate to calibrate and that it varies heavily depending on the immediate task. So, if you're playing a game, or the PC is coming out of an OS reboot the estimate will be quite short versus letting the computer idle at 1%.

There are some other options there too including default System Power Scheme e.g. Performance (default) versus Balanced. If battery life is more important to you enabling Balanced may get you some extra longevity.

Let us know how it goes!

The BIOS of my HP probook 450 G4 doesn't have the system configuration tab but has the Advanced tab instead. There is no option to turn on battery time remaining. I checked all possible options under that tab but still there is no option to turn it on. The power plan is always balanced and I have never changed it since clean installing Windows 10 1703 on June last year and upgrading to Windows 10 1709 on October last year. I think this might be a bug within the BIOS/Firmware or within Windows or the feature was turned off by either Windows or HP to avoid confusing users about the time left because it calculates the time based on the current use of battery power

I have 2 different HP laptops both updated to Windows 1803, one is showing time remaining and one is not. Did you find a solution?

I also noticed the one without time remaining has more inconsistent battery readings, often it will jump several percentage. It could be disable due to this issue, but whats causing this issue? Driver, hardware?
