HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2K3D8AV)

Over a week ago, my laptop started behaving strangely. The battery status started showing the "Plugged In" and "Charging" status even when the charging cord was not connected. The charging indicator also shows an amber light when this happens, indicating that the battery is being charged. This incorrect status comes and goes abruptly, and the laptop starts lagging. Initially, this issue did not cause any problems when I actually plugged in the charger to charge the battery.

But for the last 3-4 days, the battery does not charge even when I plug in the charging cord. The laptop shows the "Plugged In" status, but the battery percentage keeps decreasing normally. I have contacted the HP support technician twice, and here is what they have tried so far:

1. Turned the laptop on and off multiple times.

2. Updated the BIOS.

3. Ran the AC Adapter Check  (Passed)

4. Ran the Battery Check (Passed)

5. Uninstalled the Battery and AC Adapter drivers.

6. Installed all the pending software updates.

Additionally, I also tried calibrating the battery because the HP Support Assistant app was telling me to do so. That seemed to fix the issue the next day. But the problem has returned again. It is almost certainly a software issue, but I don't know how to solve it! It has been just 7 months since I purchased the laptop, and it's already making me anxious and frustrated!

Hi @itsjeetka,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is displaying the "Plugged in" status when it's not actually connected to the charger and is not charging when it is plugged in, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to diagnose and potentially fix the problem.

Check the power adapter and cable:

  • Ensure that the power adapter is plugged into a working power outlet.
  • Examine the power cable for any visible damage or fraying. If it's damaged, replace it with a new one.
  • Make sure you are using an official HP charger or a compatible charger recommended by HP.

Restart your laptop:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve power-related issues. Restart your laptop and see if the problem persists.

Check the battery:

  • Open the Device Manager on your laptop.
  • Expand the "Batteries" category, right-click on "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery," and select "Uninstall device."
  • Restart your laptop. Windows will reinstall the battery drivers. Check if the issue is resolved.

Inspect the charging port and connectors:

  • Ensure that there is no dust or debris in the charging port of your laptop.
  • Inspect the connectors on both the laptop and the charger for any damage or bent pins. If you find any issues, they may need to be repaired or replaced.

BIOS/UEFI settings:

  • Access your laptop's BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F2 or another key during startup).
  • Check for any power-related settings that might be causing the issue. Restore the BIOS settings to their default values if necessary.

Battery health:

  • Use the built-in HP Support Assistant or a third-party battery health monitoring tool to check the health of your laptop's battery. If the battery is degraded or faulty, it may need to be replaced.

Software and drivers:

  • Ensure that your laptop's operating system and drivers are up-to-date. Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers for your laptop model.

Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your Windows operating system is fully updated. Sometimes, Windows updates can address power-related issues.

Test with another charger:

  • If possible, try charging your laptop with a different charger that is known to work correctly. This will help determine if the issue is with the charger or the laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
