I have a hp laptop, had it about 4 to 5 yrs, screen broke, had it repaired, it was working but unused. When I tried to use at a later time, it will no longer work. When I turn it on it shows HP Bios Update & under that it shows "The System Bios Recovery Failed. Unable to open Bios Signature File." The system starts to count down then shuts off & turn itself back on. I am unable to go pass that - any suggestions?

@MsLia333, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding BIOS Recovery Failure on HP Laptops!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
The issue you're experiencing with your HP laptop—specifically the BIOS Update error and BIOS Recovery failure—suggests a BIOS corruption that prevents the system from completing the boot process. Here are steps you can take to resolve this issue:
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
- Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then turn on the laptop. Check if the issue persists.
Use HP BIOS Recovery:
- If your laptop supports HP BIOS Recovery, press F2 repeatedly while the laptop is restarting to enter the HP BIOS Recovery mode.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to attempt a recovery of the BIOS.
Try BIOS Recovery via USB Flash Drive:
- Download the latest BIOS update from the HP Support website using another computer.
- Create a recovery USB drive using the BIOS update file.
- Insert the USB drive into your laptop and attempt to boot from it. This might allow you to update or recover the BIOS.
Check for Hardware Issues:
- Ensure that the laptop’s RAM and storage drive are properly connected. Sometimes hardware may become loose, especially if the device has been moved or transported.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
