Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have a HP Probook and a software I use said that after the latest BIOS update on HP laptops with gen 11 to gen 13 intel processor, there was a problem with a software we primarly use on that laptop and it would often bug, close or freeze.

Due to this specific problem, I need to downgrade this BIOS. Right now it is on T70 Ver. 01.21.00 04/09/2025. I would like to change atleast to Ver 01.20., to see if it would help, as we have had this problem half a year now.
I have tried downgrading from windows and via usb from bios (F10 option). I get somewhere, where it ask for 4 numbers and enter, then next screen I get following text: BIOS Update did not procees because the system administrator has locked the BIOS version.

I've checked the settings and BIOS version change is set to unrestricted. the secure boot is enabled, but can't turn it off, as it is enabled everytime I go to BIOS to check, even if I turn it off and save.

What should I check or try?

Thanks! Regards, Mathias

Hello @TehDuckys ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

You’re running into HP’s BIOS Rollback Protection, and based on what you described, it’s behaving exactly as designed—even though the UI says “unrestricted.”

The system will still refuse to downgrade once a newer BIOS has been committed. This is not a local admin or Windows issue — it’s enforced at firmware level.

If you would like further information about this on your product, please Contact HP support in your region.
