Hi,
after installed an update of a driver suggested from Microsoft on My HP Envy x360, which has windows 11, laptop tried to restart and than it keeps giving this error Stop Code: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESSOR_EQUAL (0xD1). I can not start anything because it keeps restarting and the only thing I can do is to go to BIOS options and try to boot from USB. I tried to disable the safe boot and give usb as first option to boot but after saving the settings, those are set back, because my usb-windows wont be recognized. I tried the usb in another old hp laptop and worked fine. Someone knows why the settings on BIOS cannt be saved? I tried to rollback the BIOS but also that didnt hapen.

Hi @artitan2025
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly. It’s genuinely frustrating to be locked in a restart loop with a persistent stop code, especially when BIOS changes won’t stick and your recovery USB isn’t recognized.
Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to help restore control over your HP Envy x360 and get it booting again.
Why BIOS Settings May Not Be Saving
This typically points to one of the following:
- Corrupted BIOS firmware: A failed or interrupted update can prevent settings from being retained.
- Secure Boot or TPM lock: Some systems revert changes if security flags are triggered.
- CMOS battery failure: Rare, but if the internal battery is weak, settings may not persist.
- Write protection or firmware lock: Some HP models have BIOS protection enabled by default.
Step-by-Step Recovery Path
1. Perform a Full Power Reset
This clears embedded controller faults and may unlock BIOS persistence.
- Power off the laptop completely.
- Disconnect the power adapter and all peripherals.
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect power and try entering BIOS again (Esc or F10 at startup).
2. Restore BIOS Defaults
- In BIOS, press F9 to load Setup Defaults.
- Save with F10 and exit.
- Re-enter BIOS and try changing Secure Boot and Boot Order again.
3. Use HP BIOS Recovery via USB
If BIOS rollback didn’t work, manually recover it using a USB drive.
- On another PC, visit the HP Envy x360 15 Driver Page.
- Download the latest BIOS update for your exact model.
- Run the installer and choose Create Recovery USB.
- Insert the USB into your affected laptop.
- Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
- Release all keys and wait—BIOS recovery should begin.
4. Check USB Format and Port
- Ensure the USB is formatted to FAT32.
- Use a USB 2.0 port if available—some BIOS setups don’t recognize USB 3.0 during boot.
- Avoid using USB hubs or adapters.
5. Disable Fast Boot and Secure Boot (If Possible)
- In BIOS, disable Fast Boot and Secure Boot.
- Enable Legacy Boot or CSM if available.
- Set USB as first boot device.
- Save with F10 and exit.
Once BIOS recovery completes or settings begin to persist, retry booting from your Windows USB. If the stop code still appears, I’ll guide you through a clean OS reinstall or driver rollback. You're close to restoring full control. Let me know what the BIOS screen shows after these steps.
