Pavilion dv6-6195ca
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The Windows Creators update bricked my laptop.  Still woriking through that problem.  One item I noticed in my bios was the version number is F.1B.  When I go to the HP Bios update web page it lists 2 versions for my laptop:

1) F.1B Rev. A  - Oct 31, 2011

2) F.13 - May 6, 2011

Which one should I be using?  F.1B has a newer revision date then F.13 however one would think that F.13 would be the logicially newer version.

HP Pavillion dv6-6195ca (was) running Windows 10 64bit.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Hi @HotelPrisoner,

I reviewed the post comprehensively. You've displayed brilliant efforts, infinite patience coupled with commendable troubleshooting expertise to try and resolve the issue. Kudos to you for a job well done. 🙂  I am taking over from here as @Riddle_Decipher is out of the office today.

There are no bios updates for Windows 10 on the HP support site. All the bios and driver updates that you see are for Windows 7 which should have been the original OS installed on the machine. To answer your question, Don't go by the bios version's nomenclature. Please go by the release dates. it is clear that the other release 1) F.1B Rev. A  - Oct 31, 2011 is the later bios or the newer version.

However, upgrade to this bios version only if the computer has problems. Otherwise, it is not required. But that is left to your discretion. Please keep in mind that the computer is out of warranty and if the bios update does not go well, It could brick the computer's motherboard. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

@HotelPrisoner

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you want to know which BIOS version is the best for your PC,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Is your computer booting into the windows without any errors or issues at the moment?

What do you mean your PC is bricked?

While you respond to that I recommend you follow the below steps:

Logically, you may want to look at the release dates of the BIOS updates as the recent would be the latest update for your PC, that said, a BIOS update isn't mandatory, its only purpose would be to fix certain issues within the PC and if you don't have any issues, there's no need of updating the BIOS.

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

My computer would not boot at all. Whatever the creators update did it turned the partition where Windows and all my other files were located into a RAW partition, the recovery environment would not start, the Windows media disc I created would not fix it using the built in utilities. Some partition management utilities were used to gain access to and copy out my emails and important files which they could see but no amount of fixing would fix the issue. I found all my files in a newly created Windows.old folder, copied them out and then restored my machine from an backup image taken in May. So bricked was an accurate description in my case.

Everything is now restored and running less the Creators update but the question on the bios version I think is still valid.
