My windows 10 computer is set to open a Bitlocker encrypted external hard disk automatically and so it does without problems. However, I have lost the file with the recovery key. Is there a way to find the recovery key in this situation as I need to use the external hdd on another computer?

If you didn't export the key to your Microsoft account, I suggest the next time you plug the drive into your notebook that you decrypt the drive (turn BitLocker off on that drive) because if you don't, you won't be able to see any of your files on another PC.
