Hi, I’m facing an issue with my old laptop that was sitting idle for years never actully used.

The issue is  with Bluetooth on my HP Pavilion G6. It doesn’t turn on or connect to any devices. I’ve already tried reinstalling drivers, updating Windows, and running the Bluetooth troubleshooter, but the problem remains the same. Can anyone suggest a permanent fix?

@Rao_Wick, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When facing Bluetooth connectivity issues on an HP Pavilion G6, especially if it hasn't been used for a while, there are several steps you can follow to attempt to resolve the problem:

Ensure Hardware is Functioning:

  • If the laptop has been idle for years, it's possible that some hardware issues have developed. Make sure the Bluetooth hardware is still functioning properly. You might need to check connections and ensure there aren’t any physical hardware issues.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Sometimes, Bluetooth could be disabled in the BIOS. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, Del, or Esc during startup) and ensure that Bluetooth is enabled.

Bluetooth Device Manager Check:

  • In Device Manager, locate Bluetooth drivers and ensure they are working correctly without any error indicators (yellow triangle). If there are any errors, right-click and check properties for information.

Enable Bluetooth Services:

  • Go to Services (search for it in the Start menu) and ensure that Bluetooth services are running. Services such as "Bluetooth Support Service" should be set to Automatic and running.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Even though you mentioned updating Windows, ensure all drivers are fully updated. Sometimes, a complete Windows update might be necessary to fix underlying issues.

Remove and Re-Pair Devices:

  • If your device is not detecting Bluetooth peripherals, try to remove any connected devices and re-add them. Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices, remove and then try pairing again.

Reset Network Settings:

  • Consider resetting network settings to default. This can sometimes resolve complex conflicts. Go to Settings, Network & Internet, Status and click on "Network reset".

Check for Hardware Switches:

  • Some laptops have a physical switch or function key combination to toggle Bluetooth and wireless connectivity. Ensure it is turned on.

Consider Using an External Adapter:

  • If the internal Bluetooth doesn't seem to be functioning, a USB Bluetooth adapter can be a practical workaround.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
