I have just purchased a new OmniBook X. The front-facing webcam image is completely blurry. I have tried all of the below steps that I found listed in a HP community post, but none have made a difference. I have tried using it in different software (MS Teams, Zoom, Camera app) but all are the same. Please can someone assist?

1. Clean the Camera Lens

2. Update Camera Driver

3. Adjust Camera Settings

4. Check for Windows Updates

5. Test with Different Applications

6. Roll Back Driver

7. Reinstall Camera Driver

8. Check Camera Privacy Settings

9. Use HP Support Assistant

Hi @hlpk55,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for sharing the steps you’ve already tried, which shows you’ve been thorough! If your HP OmniBook X webcam image is still blurry, even after cleaning the lens and updating drivers, the issue is likely hardware-related (lens focus) or software calibration

1. Check Physical Lens and Privacy Features

  • Ensure the privacy shutter is fully open.
  • If your OmniBook X has a webcam privacy switch or key, toggle it to ON.
(Sometimes the shutter isn’t fully open, and the image looks foggy or blurred.)

2. Lighting and Positioning

Poor lighting can make the image appear soft or grainy:

3. Update BIOS and HP Camera Enhancements

  • Open HP Support AssistantUpdates → Install all recommended updates (including BIOS and camera firmware).
  • Restart your laptop after updates.
(Think of this as giving your OmniBook X a fresh tune-up; it often resolves hidden calibration issues.)

4. Test in HP Camera Settings

Some OmniBook X models include HP Presence or AI Camera features:

  • Open HP Camera Control (or HP Presence settings).
  • Check if Auto Focus or Face Auto-Exposure is enabled.
  • Reset settings to default.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Dear Vikram,

Thank you for your reply, however unfortunately none of these solutions solved the issue.

1. The privacy shutter is open, and the privacy switch is on.

2. Lighting is not the issue. My previous laptop (HP pavilion) used in the exact same locations does not have this issue, and I have tried using various lamps and positionings of the laptop.

3.  I have checked this again, all possible updates were already installed.

4. I have reset all settings to default, this did not make a difference.

Hi there,
How did you resolve this?
I followed all the steps support provided, but nothing worked.
I'm still facing the same issue and would really appreciate any guidance.

Hi, I have the OmniBook X 14 Flip - same issue. The camera quality is so bad; it's like my 1st-gen Nokia candybar phone with a camera! How do I get this fixed? Is there a thin, factory-fitted screen protector that needs to be removed?

I welcome your reply.
