Hi @Starfabulus73,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop encountered an issue during a BIOS update, which is now causing it to fail to boot. The high-pitched beeping usually indicates a hardware problem or BIOS corruption. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

Power Cycle the Laptop:

  • Turn off the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if it's removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning the laptop on again.

Check for BIOS Recovery Options:

  • On some HP laptops, you can initiate a BIOS recovery by pressing and holding the Windows + B keys, then pressing the power button while still holding the keys. This might start the BIOS recovery process. Release the keys when you see a BIOS update screen or hear a beep.

Try a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the laptop and disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external keyboards, etc.).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds to perform a hard reset.
  • Reconnect only the power adapter and try booting the laptop again.

Check for Error Codes:

  • The beeping sound might be an error code. Count the beeps and look up the code in the HP BIOS beep codes documentation for your specific laptop model to identify the issue.

Reseat Hardware Components:

  • If you're comfortable opening your laptop, reseat the RAM and any other easily accessible components. Sometimes loose connections can cause boot issues.

Since you use the laptop daily for college, it might be a good idea to back up any critical data if you can access the hard drive from another computer or using a bootable USB drive if possible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
