HP ENVY Laptop 17-ce1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello! I am having severely annoying issues with my brand new Envy laptop. Whenever I am playing games on it, no matter how intensive it is, my entire system will freeze up within 5-15 minutes of gameplay. Sometimes the sound will continue, sometimes it loops like it crashes. Sometimes the sound just stops altogether! The screen will sometimes get these weird glitch effects too. Sometimes the effects get so bad that it will start dimming, color will start fading, etc etc. Then when I boot it back up, there will be a weird flicker that happens for about 15 minutes before going away.

I have run system checks, and everything is in working good order. I have updated all my drivers, and still get these issues. I am at a loss and really feel like I was scammed out of $1200 for this thing. What's the point in putting an Nvidia card in the computer if using it causes these issues? If I would have known about that, I would have bought a different computer.

I really hope I can get a solution for this. This is making me miserable.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with the preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate.

By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does.

If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware.

I have looked through the Nvidia control panel with my friend to no avail. Everything is set to performance, and I'm running the latest Nvidia game drivers. Problem still persists.

But why should we need to access my computer remotely? I've checked all my settings and hardware stats using troubleshooting tools and it all says that it is a-okay. I don't really trust people accessing my computer remotely, sorry.

@Hey_Its_Nikki

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggest you perform the system reset and check.

If the issue still persists, you have to perform the system recovery.

Performing the recovery you will lose the personal data and installed application.

Please make sure that you have taken the backup before performing the recovery.

Have a nice day!!
