HP sent the hinge as they said they would.  When I tobracket.pngok the unit apart, it was actually the plastic platform that the hinge mounted was all busted.  Could not glue or repair regular.  Would require a new bottom.  So I took the hinge bracket HP sent me and, cut off the bottom and placed on underside.  Drilled clear through and used longer screws with nuts on top.   Also loosened the nut on the hinge as it was way too tight, which caused the lid to shut way too hard, and probably the reason the plastic busted around the hinge.  No need to be so tight.  Also while inside, tightened the other side screws as they were also loose.  The  lid works now as it should.  I am attaching pictures: The white around is where I tried to use Gorilla tape to hold the lid together before the new hinge came so would not do more damage.  I will now need to put a rubber tape over the bottom corner where the bracket is located so it will not scratch the table when I use it.  This works better now than when new.  Lid always seemed to be in a bind, now opens and shuts easily.

I appreciate your attempt to get me some help from HP, but to date no one has contacted me. The hinge on my computer is fine now that I loosened the nut on it. At this point I just need the bottom half of the case as the stiff hinge has damaged it pretty badly.

I ended up placing a small plate on bottom with two screws clear through. Works better now then when new.

I'm am sure there must be a recall for the broken hinge as just within an hour I've found hundreds with the same issue. I desperately need help with the left hinge. Strangely, it's always the left hinge.

Still an issue had to replace the laptop, probably never gonna buy this brand again

I have bought two of these laptops for my sons. The first one failed about 2 years ago and I assumed it was from handling since he was in college. The other computer hasn't had much handling an it failed with this left hinge problem a month ago. Yesterday I took it apart and can see why and how all of these are failing from an inadequite design for several reasons. 1) The hinge tension is manufactured too tight, 2) The footprint of the hinge is very small on the left side thus is much weaker than the right side which the footprint is much larger, 3) The plastic bosses that are molded for the thread inserts are considerably too small leading to cracking and breaking quicky, 4) The mounting screws for the hinges are minimal in size,5) Factoring in the first four items, it is only a matter of time before all of these laptops will fail. There has been so much damage in the plastic thread insert bosses on my laptops, I doubt there will be any long term life after attempts for washer plating and longer hinge mounting screws.
Technically, if HP is not going to reconize this problem publicly and own it, I think there should be consideration made for a class action law suit. So many customers are taken avantage of in that expensive products are being manufactured sub-par... I think that products should be built to last 4x their warranty or support intervals, not to the length of time these intervals end. I have bought (6) HP laptops in the last decade... 4 of these has failed in the hinge area destroying the laptop. If HP doesn't make this right for me personally, I will not ever buy another HP laptop again. I would think HP would care about long term customers repeat business? One last thought... the company that I just retired from buys thousands of laptops yearly and the brands bought were not HP. Those laptops were used 100 x more than my personal laptop... and I gave never heard of a hinge problem with those... interesting!

I am having the same issue with the left hinge on my laptop.  I was just wondering if HP has done anything about this yet or not?  My power button still works but my screen is entirely white when I power it up.  I'm assuming it's all related?  Any help would be appreciated.
