Hi @Maggie26,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To view the contents of your CD-R discs on an HP Chromebook, you'll need to follow these steps.
External CD/DVD Drive
Since Chromebooks don't come with built-in CD/DVD drives, you'll need an external CD/DVD drive that connects via USB. Ensure the drive is compatible with Chrome OS.
Connecting the Drive
- Plug in the Drive: Connect the external CD/DVD drive to one of the USB ports on your Chromebook.
- Power the Drive: If your drive requires external power, ensure it’s connected to a power source.
Accessing the Disc Content
- Insert the CD-R Disc: Place your CD-R disc into the external drive.
- Open the Files App:
- Click the Launcher (the circle icon in the bottom-left corner of your screen).
- Open the Files app from the Launcher.
- Locate the CD Drive:
- In the Files app, you should see your external CD/DVD drive listed in the left-hand column under “Devices” or similar. It might be labeled as "CD/DVD Drive" or the name of the disc.
- Click on this drive to access the files stored on your CD-R.
Viewing/Transferring Files
- You can now browse the contents of your CD-R. If you wish to transfer files to your Chromebook, you can drag and drop them from the CD/DVD drive to your local storage or Google Drive.
By following these steps, you should be able to view and manage the contents of your CD-R discs on your HP Chromebook.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
