I get a message telling me that my cmos checksum is invalid and needs to be reset, this happens every every so often whenever I boot up my laptop. Is there any way to workaround/fix this?

we need the exact model of your computer, and the product number
To find it follow this
for a desktop computer

and for a laptop:

HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Product Name or Number? | HP® Customer Support

This can happen if the motherboard battery is hs
Some laptops do not seem to have a replaceable battery!
is the internal or external battery still in working order?

 

You may have this problem following a bios update as well
