The BIOS chip. I determined from all the information that I was able to find that the BIOS was corrupted, and there was no way I could get it to start, or boot to any device. I figured replacing the BIOS chip was the last thing I could do to try and fix it before replacing the motherboard.

I determined from all the information I was able to find that the BIOS was corrupted, and that there was no way to get it to start, or to boot to any device. I decided I had nothing to loose by trying to replace the BIOS chip. I found the BIOS chip on the motherboard, and sucessfully removed it. I then ordered a replacement chip from My Tech, as I found this on one of the HP forums. When it arrives, I will solder it to the board, and hopefully it will start.

The new chip would not work. Now I only have a dead board, but I could not get the laptop CMOS to reset the BIOS to default. It just kept shutting down, and restarting in a continueous loop. Maybe the chip supplier is not selling a good product. but other people on the HP forum bought replacement chips from this guy and had success. I have a programmer of my own, but the HP BIOS files all have 2 bin files and I guess you have to have the capability to program the chip with both files.
