Hi,
I saw the latest BIOS F.09 update for my HP Victus 15-fb2xxx series and updated it. However, two days later when I tried to play game on my notebook, I noticed that its fans were not spinning at required rpm. I checked it with Omen Gaming Hub and realized that CPU was 100 degrees. I maxed the fans, but nothing happened. Also, when notebook is idle at desktop, it was around 70-80 degrees with no background tasks etc. I somehow reinstalled F.08 version and now it works well. Keep an eye out for this problem. By the way, I have tried formatting my notebook, installing latest drivers, different modes for cooling etc but they do not effect the problem itself.
Thanks.

Hi @ByteOverlord,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand your HP Victus 15-fb2xxx overheating after updating to BIOS F.09, with fans not responding properly until you rolled back to BIOS F.08. Let’s go through a few checks to confirm stability and prevent the issue from returning.
Stay on BIOS F.08 for now
Since temperatures returned to normal after reinstalling F.08, this confirms the cooling hardware and fans are working correctly.
Avoid reinstalling F.09 until a newer BIOS revision is released.
Reset BIOS settings after rollback
Enter BIOS by pressing F10 during startup.
Select Load Setup Defaults → Save and Exit.
This ensures the thermal tables and fan curves reload correctly.
Update Omen Gaming Hub and HP System Event Utility
Install the latest versions from HP Support.
These components communicate with the BIOS for fan control and thermal management.
Check fan behavior in HP Hardware Diagnostics
Restart the notebook and press F2 → Component Tests → Fan.
Verify both fans respond normally to the test.
Monitor temperatures under load
Use Omen Gaming Hub or Task Manager while running a light workload.
Idle CPU temperatures should typically stay around 40–55°C, and gaming temperatures should remain below 95°C.
Pause BIOS automatic updates
In HP Support Assistant, disable automatic BIOS updates temporarily.
This prevents F.09 from reinstalling automatically.A
I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi,
I tested my notebook for two days with BIOS version F.08, and the results are promising. The idle temperature now stays between 32–46°C, which is excellent. Fan behavior is also stable—they ramp up smoothly as CPU or GPU temperatures increase.
However, the overheating issue during gaming still persists. While playing titles like Overwatch 2, the system reaches 97°C under only ~40% load. This makes me suspect that the air vents may need cleaning.
For now, I’ll continue using F.08 and wait for a new BIOS update beyond F.09, since that version caused the fans to stop responding properly.
Thanks again for your help!

Hi @ByteOverlord,
Thanks for the update and for taking the time to test the system on BIOS F.08, I’m glad to hear the idle temperatures and fan response are back to normal.
Since gaming temperatures are still reaching the high 90s, checking and cleaning the air vents (and fans, if accessible) is a good next step, as dust buildup can significantly affect cooling performance. Monitoring temperatures after cleaning will help confirm whether airflow was the cause.
You’re doing the right thing by staying on BIOS F.08 for now and waiting for a newer BIOS revision beyond F.09.
Please feel free to share an update after cleaning the vents or if you notice any changes, we’ll be happy to assist further.
Best Regards

Hi Emir15,
Rolling back to BIOS version F.08 may cause certain issues, so please proceed carefully. However, since I experienced problems with F.09, I followed the steps below to manage the installation:
Go to the HP Support website for your specific product. Under the BIOS section, check the option to view previous versions and download BIOS version F.08.
After installing F.08, the system may automatically prompt you to reboot in order to install the newer BIOS version (F.09). To prevent this automatic upgrade, open Device Manager > Firmware > System Firmware, then select Roll Back Driver. This should allow you to remain on version F.08.
Restart your laptop and verify the BIOS version by opening System Information and checking the BIOS Version/Date field.
If you are not confident performing these steps, I recommend seeking professional assistance.
I hope this helps.
