The usage of the CPU in my PC is always at 100% no matter what I do, even at inactivity, it rarely goes down. I think I have tried everything and have checked for malware too.
Can anyone help, I'll give any info if it is needed.

Hi @FreeAndGreat3,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP All-in-One PC is consistently showing 100% CPU usage, it could indicate a few potential issues. High CPU usage can lead to system slowdowns, overheating, and reduced performance. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and resolve the problem.
- Check Task Manager: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager. In the "Processes" tab, identify which processes are consuming the most CPU resources. This will give you an idea of which applications or services might be causing the high CPU usage.
- End Unnecessary Processes: If you notice any non-essential or suspicious processes using a significant amount of CPU, you can right-click on them in the Task Manager and select "End task." Be cautious when ending processes, as terminating critical system processes can lead to instability.
- Update Software: Ensure that your operating system and all software are up to date. Sometimes, outdated software can cause compatibility issues and excessive CPU usage.
- Scan for Malware: Malware or viruses can cause high CPU usage. Run a full system scan using a reliable antivirus software to detect and remove any potential threats.
- Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupted drivers can also lead to high CPU usage. Check HP's website for driver updates related to your specific model.
- Check for Background Processes: Some background processes, like automatic updates or maintenance tasks, can consume CPU resources. Make sure your PC is not running resource-intensive tasks in the background.
- Check Power Settings: In some cases, the CPU usage may spike due to incorrect power settings. Go to "Control Panel" > "Power Options" and select a balanced or power-saving plan.
- Check for Overheating: High CPU usage can cause overheating, which can, in turn, lead to performance issues. Ensure that your PC's cooling system is working correctly, and consider cleaning any dust or debris that might be blocking airflow.
- Perform a Clean Boot: Booting your PC with minimal startup items can help identify if a third-party application is causing the high CPU usage. Follow the instructions provided by Microsoft for performing a clean boot.
- Consider a System Restore: If you recently installed new software or made significant changes to your system, try performing a system restore to a point where your PC was functioning normally.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
