HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV)

I am experiencing a performance issue related to CPU frequency after waking the laptop from sleep mode on battery power.

Problem Description:

  • After waking from sleep while on battery, the CPU frequency drops to a very low speed (~0.4 GHz), causing the system to be extremely slow.

  • When I plug in the charger, the CPU frequency immediately returns to normal performance levels.

  • After unplugging the charger, the CPU continues to work normally at full speed.

  • This suggests that plugging and unplugging the charger "resets" the CPU power state and resolves the throttling issue temporarily.

  • A full shutdown and restart also fixes the issue.

  • BIOS is up to date (recently updated).

Checked and adjusted Windows power plan settings for minimum and maximum processor state. Maximum is set to 100%

Hi @asmirp,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand you're experiencing a performance issue on your HP 15.6" Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV), specifically CPU throttling after waking from sleep on battery power, which temporarily resolves after plugging in the charger or restarting the device.

1. Perform a Power Reset

Resetting the hardware can clear power state issues:

  1. Power off the laptop
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter
  3. Press and hold the power button for ~15 seconds
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter and power on

2. Update Chipset & Intel Dynamic Tuning Drivers

These drivers manage power scaling and thermal behaviour, especially on battery.

3. Use a Custom Power Plan

Create a custom power plan with:

  • Minimum processor state: 100%
  • Maximum processor state: 100%
  • Disable Processor idle states if available in advanced settings.

4. Reset BIOS Settings

Sometimes, resetting the BIOS to the defaults can help:

  • Enter BIOS (usually by pressing Esc or F10 during boot).
  • Look for an option like "Load Setup Defaults" or "Restore Defaults".

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
