So i am having trouble understanding how to calibrate my HP notebook properly near the last steps. I have done this in the past and have got a successful calibration just that i forgot what steps i did.

this is what i did

Step one charge to 100%

Step two Use memory test to drain battery

Step three Wait 6 Hours before charging again (leave dead over night)

Step four Plug in and charge for 3 hours (closed lid till red light turns white )

Step five Turn on and wait 2 hours before running hp battery test to check it

on the last step should i keep the HP plugged in to run the test? Do i unplug it and turn it off then run hp diagnostics from bootup to run the battery test ( after letting it sit for 2 hours on) please reply asap.

Hi @Imverylost100, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

For the last step, you should unplug the charger before running the HP Battery Check in diagnostics. Here's the correct approach:

  1. After charging for 3 hours (Step 4), turn on your laptop and let it sit idle for 2 hours while plugged in.
  2. Unplug the charger and then turn off your laptop.
  3. Boot into HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) by pressing F2 repeatedly as you power it on.
  4. Select Component Tests > Power > Battery Test and run it.

Running the test with the charger unplugged ensures an accurate reading of your battery’s health.🚀

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Okay got it. So when i go to power it on and let it sit idle for 2hours does it have to stay awake or can it just sleep during that whole time before i restart and boot into diagnostics.

Thank you for your response, @Imverylost100!
During the 2-hour idle period, it's best to keep the laptop awake rather than letting it sleep.

If it goes to sleep, the battery enters a low-power state, which might affect the calibration process. To prevent this:

  • Adjust power settings: Set the sleep timer to "Never" under Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings.
  • Leave the laptop on: You can keep it on the desktop or play a low-power video with the screen dimmed.

After 2 hours, you can shut it down, unplug it, and run the HP Battery Test in diagnostics. 👍

Take care, and have an incredible day ahead!
