I have an Omen 15 laptop and the camera has stopped working. I can find no camera driver on Device Manager, even in the hidden devices option. Does this computer have an HP or a Microsoft camera driver and how do I get it reinstalled?

Hi @ColinA2
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how inconvenient this must be, especially when you rely on your camera. Let’s work through this step by step to get your camera back up and running:
Step 1: Check Camera Settings
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Ensure that camera access is enabled for apps and Windows.
Step 2: Run the Camera Troubleshooter
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Find Camera and click Run. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 3: Check Device Manager
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras. If no camera is listed, proceed to the next step.
- If a camera is listed but has a yellow triangle, right-click it and select Update driver.
Step 4: Reinstall Camera Driver
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your laptop model (OMEN Laptop - 15-ek0013dx).
- Download the latest camera driver for Windows 11 (it might be listed under "Software and Drivers").
- Install the driver and restart your laptop.
Step 5: Check for Windows Updates
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Go to Windows Update and click Check for updates.
- Install any pending updates and restart your laptop.
Step 6: Reset the Camera App
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the Camera app, click the three dots, and select Advanced options.
- Scroll down and click Reset.
Step 7: BIOS Update (Optional)
- Visit the HP Support website and check for a BIOS update for your laptop model.
How to Update BIOS Software on Windows PCs | HP® Tech Takes - Follow the instructions to update the BIOS, as an outdated version can sometimes cause hardware detection issues.

Hi Hawks_Eye,
Many thanks for the suggestions! However, I've been through all of the options and none have worked. I still see no camera driver in Device Manager under Imaging Devices or a stand alone Camera directory. It appears that there are no camera driver options listed in the HP support page for this computer, so I'm not sure where we can go from here... any other thoughts/ideas would be much appreciated!
Thanks and regards
Colin

You are Welcome!
Thank you for your update and for trying the suggested steps.
I understand how frustrating it can be when the issue persists despite your efforts. Let’s explore a few additional options to resolve this:
Check for Hidden Devices in Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager and click on the View menu.
- Select Show hidden devices to see if the camera appears under Imaging Devices or as an Unknown Device.
- If it does, right-click and select Update Driver or Enable Device.
Add Legacy Hardware:
- Press Windows Key + R, type hdwwiz.cpl, and press Enter.
- In the Add Hardware Wizard, select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced).
- Choose Imaging Devices and follow the prompts to add the camera manually.
Windows Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Hardware and Devices and run the troubleshooter to detect and fix any issues.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings.
- Check if the camera is disabled at the hardware level and enable it if necessary.
External Camera Drivers:
- If the built-in camera driver is unavailable, consider using a generic driver from the Windows Update catalog or an external camera driver compatible with your system.
Best regards,
Hawks_Eye
Feel free to adapt this as needed. Let me know if you'd like to refine it further! 😊
