HP Notebook - 14s-cr1005tu
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop camera (built-in) stopped working after updating to Windows 11, there is no camera driver present in the device manager. I have tried multiple sources looking for the camera driver, but unable to find it.

The HP support for my laptop model only have driver support for windows 10.

Can anyone help with this?

@Haripriya21, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It's not uncommon for certain drivers to become incompatible or even missing after updating to a new operating system like Windows 11. Here are a few steps to try and resolve the issue with the webcam on your HP Notebook - 14s-cr1005tu:

1. Scan for Hardware Changes

Sometimes, Windows might not automatically recognize new hardware. Follow these steps to scan for hardware changes and potentially restore your webcam driver:

  1. Open Device Manager by searching for it in the Start menu.
  2. Select Action at the top, then click Scan for hardware changes.
  3. If the imaging device category appears, expand it and verify the presence of your camera.

2. Updating Windows

Ensure that your Windows 11 is fully updated, which may include essential drivers.

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install them if available.

3. Using UVC Driver for USB Cameras

Most USB webcams, including built-in ones, are compatible with the UVC (USB Video Class) driver. You can switch to this driver using the following steps:

  1. Device Manager: Search for Device Manager in the Start menu.
  2. Right-click your camera in the list (if visible) and select Update driver.
  3. Select Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  4. Choose USB Video Device and click Next.

4. Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver

If you can see the camera in Device Manager, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

  • Right-click on your camera in the Device Manager.
  • Select Uninstall device.
  • Confirm the uninstallation.
  • Restart your computer, and Windows might automatically reinstall the driver.

5. HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant may help you in finding the necessary software for your device. Ensure you have the latest version:

  • Search for and open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu.
  • Select your PC and check for updates.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the response, I have tried scanning for hardware changes, updating windows - these didn't work.

I am not seeing any Camera option in the device manager, so cannot update the driver. I have tried installing older versions of the drivers, nothing worked. Contacted the HP support team, they couldn't help 😞

I have now purchased an external camera, nothing else seems to work.
