Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

The camera is not working on my Elitebook 840 G5 and I am unable to find drivers for Windows 11 Version 24H2.

I downloaded the driver another user posted: 24.20296.50863.0 Rev.A but unfortunately the camera is still not working. I tried the version: 2018.0.18362.2 but this also didn't resolve the issue.

I also ran UEFI diagnostics and it said it passed.

I have seen the camera come on for about a second a few times which suggests the camera itself should work.

Device Manager shows a HD and IR camera listed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

If you're experiencing issues with your camera on the HP EliteBook 840 G5 running Windows 11 and previous driver installations didn't resolve the issue, try the following steps:

  1. Check the Privacy Settings:

    • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
    • Ensure that camera access is enabled for apps you want to use with the camera.
  2. Update the Camera Driver:

    • Even if the driver you tried did not work, check Windows Update for any available driver updates.
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Under Imaging Devices or Cameras, right-click the camera and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  3. Reinstall the Camera Driver:

    • In Device Manager, right-click the camera driver and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
  4. Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates:

    • Visit the HP Software & Driver Downloads page for your HP EliteBook 840 G5.
    • Check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available that might improve hardware compatibility.
  5. Use HP Support Assistant:

    • HP Support Assistant might have updates or utilities that could assist in resolving driver issues.
  6. Test the Camera:

    • Use the Windows Camera app to see if the camera works.
    • If it doesn't, try disabling and re-enabling the camera in the Device Manager.
  7. Check for Physical Issues:

    • Verify that the camera lens is not obstructed.
    • Ensure the privacy shutter, if available, is open.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
