@Rangerover2024, Hi there, and welcome to HP Support Community!
Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.
I understand you're having trouble with your HP Notebook camera not working while trying to take an assessment. Let's go through a few steps to get it working again:
Check the Camera Privacy Switch or Shutter Key
Some HP notebooks have a physical switch or key that disables the camera for privacy:
- Look for a slider near the camera or a camera key (often on the top row of the keyboard).
- If the camera has a shutter light, make sure it's off (light on = camera off).
Open the Camera App
- Press Windows + S, type Camera, and open the Camera app.
- If the camera works here, it’s likely a permissions or app-specific issue.
Check Camera Permissions
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Make sure Camera access for this device is On.
- Also ensure the app you're using (e.g., browser or assessment tool) has permission to use the camera.
Update or Reinstall the Camera Driver
- Press Windows + X > Device Manager.
- Expand Cameras or Imaging Devices.
- Right-click your camera > Update driver or Uninstall device (then restart your PC to reinstall automatically).
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
Use HP’s built-in tool to test the camera:
- Download and run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support
