I cant seem to activate Microsoft office which should be free for 12 month.   Window is is on the laptop however I didnt activate microsoft office at the same time and dont recall being given the opportunity.   When I try to activate, it wants me to pay for a yearly subscription, how do I get this activated free of charge as should be included??

No, that is a trial version and only valid for 30 days or so. If you wish to continue to use, you have to pay. Windows and Office are 2 different products from Microsoft.
