HP Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On booting I get a message telling me to update my BIOS (currently version F.31 dated 28th Nov 2018). When I select my laptop on the HP Software & Drivers page I get a message saying searching for updates but nothing happens and eventually the action times out.

@Dave_V,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query on this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues download the drivers for your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • Are you facing any issues with the computer?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

While you respond to that, you can download all the drivers and the software for your computer from the below link.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

I recommend you download and install HP support assistant and it will automatically download and the latest drivers and software available for your computer.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

  6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

    • Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.

    • Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon  to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.

    • Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Thank you very much for your reply.

The answers to your questions are: no; no; yes.  I already have the HP Support Assistant installed and, when I run this, it shows that no updates are needed.   So, it seems that the HP Support Assistant does not identify a need to update the BIOS but occasionally when I boot the PC I still get the message saying that the BIOS needs updating.

As mentioned in my previous message, my current BIOS version is F.31 dated 28th Nov 2018.  Is this in fact the latest version for my laptop?

As I am based in the UK, in the past I have used the site https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers to download HP software and drivers.  However, for the past few days, this page just freezes while displaying the message "HP is compiling your results" after I select my device from the detected list.   Exactly the same thing happens when I use the link in your message (i.e. with in-en instead of gb-en).

I suppose it doesn't matter as long as I can get the updates using the HP Support Assistant, but it does concern me that I can't access the software and drivers direct from the HP Support website.
