Hi @Charmaine10,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your cursor is missing on your HP laptop and you don’t have a touchscreen to use as an alternative input method, here are several steps you can take to resolve the issue:
1. Check if the Touchpad is Disabled
Use Function Key:
- Many laptops have a function key that toggles the touchpad on and off. Look for a key with a touchpad icon, often found on the top row of function keys (like F5, F6, F7, or F9). Press Fn + the function key with the touchpad icon.
Check Touchpad Settings:
- If you can use the keyboard to navigate, press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
- Navigate to Devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure that the touchpad is enabled.
2. Restart Your Laptop
- Simple Restart:
- Sometimes a reboot can resolve temporary issues. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to access the Task Manager, then select Restart.
3. Check for External Mouse
- Connect an External Mouse:
- If you have an external USB mouse, connect it to your laptop to see if the cursor appears. This can help determine if the issue is with the touchpad or the system as a whole.
4. Update or Reinstall Touchpad Drivers
Access Device Manager:
- Press Windows Key + X and select Device Manager.
Locate Touchpad:
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click your touchpad device and select Update driver. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Reinstall Drivers:
- If updating doesn’t work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. Right-click the touchpad device and select Uninstall device. Restart your laptop, and Windows should reinstall the touchpad drivers.
5. Check for Windows Updates
- Update Windows:
- Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
- Go to Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any available updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
