I'm clicking on the WiFi symbol then I get the pop up for wireless connection. I click on HP Envy 7640 then click Connect. It asks me to enter either the PIN or the Security Key. After trying both I get "Windows can't get the network settings from the router". I've tried the troubleshootings tips from the HP site but they don't work. The other tips have to do with the router but are beyond my knowledge. Can anyone please help!!! I've had this computer for a year and half and have never been able to connect it to a printer!

That is to connect via WiFi direct which is where the computer connects directly to the printer. That is a less common way to set it up. Better to connect the laptop and the printer to your home router then install the printer on the laptop using a tcp/ip installation i.e. a networked printer. You have to have a printer driver installed on the laptop.
Post back and tell us what of this you do not understand and we can try to walk you through.

Thanks for your reply. The laptop and the printer are already connected to the wifi. They're just not connecting with each other. Don't understand your statement You have to have a printer driver installed on the laptop. Whats a printer driver and how do I install a one? Also I know its not a problem with the printer cause its connnected to another computer and works with that laptop fine. I'm only semi tech literate so thanks for baring with me.

I am not really a printer Expert I work the laptop boards but I have to install printers all the time. I am assuming the laptop and the printer are both connected to the same wireless router right?
You just use the add printer wizard in Windows 10 or you download the driver software and part of installing the software will be the app goes out and searches the network for the printer and finds it and pairs it with the computer and gets them talking to each other.
Please give me the model number of the laptop or at least the version of Windows you are using so I can point you to the right driver. I think for you the easiest way to do this is for you to download the software for the printer to the laptop and it will include the driver and some apps for monitoring and configuring the printer and you will be up and running.

Yes same router for both. I tried the add printer wizard for Windows 10 but that didn't work either. Laptop is HP Notebook serial# is CND647DOBS. Serial# for the printer if you need it is TH6BE4Y0(may be a zero)GR.
Thanks for all your help!
