HP notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I tried to uninstall the client security manager. For several reasons I don't want it on my laptop. However, I get this message in the photo when I tried in a normal way to uninstall the software.

 "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package...Action PinShortcut.9EA0...Location: c:\users\"username removed"\AppData\local\...\DPClientCOnsole.exe"

It's impossible to uninstall now and I don't know what to do. Has anybody a solution?

Hello @Liekeme,

How are you today ?

Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for posting

Since the installer is corrupted or actually the installation itself has messed up for some reason, let's try to repair it:

1) If HP Drive Encrytion is installed, download >>https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-elitebook-820-g2-notebook-pc/7343192/s...

2) For HP Client Security , download >> https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-elitebook-840-g3-notebook-pc/7815294/s...

If you have other security product such as HP File Sanitizer or Device Access Manager, let me know

When the installers are downloaded, run them both (or just HP Client Security if only it is installed). If the installation offers you repair or uninstall of previous version, choose to uninstall it.

Otherwise, proceed to install the latest version. It will repair the existing one.

There are certain things you SHOULD do before uninstalling HP Client Security.

HP Client Security often comes in combination with HP Drive Encryption software.

If your disk is currently encrypted by this software, you should first open HP Client Security -> click on Drive Security and follow the on-screen instructions to DECRYPT the HDD. Note that this is generally slow process and may take several hours or more depending your the amount of your HDD and your PC specifications.

You may also check if you have preboot authentication enabled. Open the HP Client Security home page -> click on the wheel Settings button -> Security Features and check there is no tick next to Power-On Authentication

With regards to HP Client Security and HP Drive Encryption, here are some screenshots with regards to these suggestions >>

Finally, please restart your computer (restart, not shutdown + start again)

Eventually, attempt to uninstall HP Client Security using the standard method from Control Panel >> Programs and features

Please, let me know how it goes.

Oh thank you so much. The problem is not on my computer but on the computer of my friend who needs help. I'm going to see him soon and let you know what happened.

I am unable to install the latest Windows 10 Updates on my ProBook G3, it says the HP Client Security is not compatible.  I am unable to uninstall HP Client Security from the Control Panel, in troubleshooting that, I found this thread and I also am unable to update the program either.  In both cases, uninstalling and updating, I get an error message that says: "Error 1235: Hewlett-Packard is not a valid short file name." As if something is not named properly that the program is looking for when it tries to uninstall or reinstall.

Do you have an suggestions on how I can proceed with either uninstalling or updating the software?

@Tykuhn

Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.

Error 1235 means nothing specific - it means the process has been interrupted.

I recommend you check the steps posted above.

Do you have any other programs aside from HP Client Security ? Drive encryption, File sanitizer , etc... ? If you do have, you need to first take care of them.

When the installers are downloaded, run them both (or just HP Client Security if only it is installed).

If the installation offers you repair or uninstall of previous version, choose to uninstall it.

Otherwise, proceed to install the latest version. It should repair the existing one.

Funny thing, if you just disable the DVD drive in device manager the update works fine. Once I updated client security then the Windows 10 updates worked without having to uninstall it. Thank you for the reply.

Hi I am having the same issue. I have been able to uninstall drive encryption. In the process of uninstalling client security I have tried to install a newer version but it gives the error 1721 UnregDpAgent in DPAgent.exe /UnregServer.

I have also tried to uninstall client security from programs and features but gives a different error 1722 UnregDPDB in regsvr32 /u /s dpdb.dll. Is there any way to resolve this?

Dear @mike_coreit1

It looks HP Client Security Manager may be corrupted or there may be some leftovers.

Download and run the latest version for Windows 10 / build 1809 and try it >> https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp98501-99000/sp98508.exe

See what options you will have for it / reinstall / install / repair. Try all of them or the appropriate for your scenario.

  • HP Drive Encryption is NOT supported on Windows 10, only on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
  • HP Client Security Manager should work on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 up to 1809, not on W10 1903. I am saying this because you have not mentioned your PC model , nor your Windows version.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi I have tried to install this but again it gives the same error 1721 UnregDpAgent in DPAgent.exe /UnregServer. I am actually using Windows 7 and may be looking to upgrade to Windows 10 later
