When I attempt to connect to live chat through my computer's HP support assistant I get an error box that says : Sorry, we encountered an error. Please try again or choose another contact option in HP Support Assistant. The only problem is, I get this error no matter what contact option I choose. Is there a way to remedy this?

Hello @JB809
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I would suggest you try with a different browser. There are plenty of options you can choose from - try Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox, etc...
What is the reason you want to contact HP Support for ?
You may try calling them, as well
- For Consumer class devices (usually home users products) >> 1-(800)-474-6836
- For Commerical class devices (usually business class products) >> 1-(800)-334-5144
- Toll free numbers for the USA
Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for your reply. However, I'm trying to connect to the chat through the HP support assistant that comes with my computer. I'm not trying to connect through a browser.
I have a question about my new laptop's wifi connectivity. When it is not plugged into the charging cord the wifi cuts in and out about every 2 minutes. It makes work impossible.

If you want to connect to HP, I'd recommend you try calling them or use the one via the browser.
However, I might be able to help you solve your problem here
With regads to your Wi-Fi issue :
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- Double-click Network Adapters to expand the list, right-click the wireless (Wi-Fi) adapter in the list, and then select Properties.
- In the Adapter Properties window, click the Power Management tab.
- Remove the check next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, and then click OK.
- Close Device Manager, restart the notebook computer, and then attempt to reconnect to the wireless network.
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- Double-click Network adapters, right-click the name of the Wireless Adapter (might vary depending on your PC model), then select Update Driver.
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If an updated driver is found, follow the instructions to install it.
- If Device Manager does not find an updated driver, you can check on the Drivers section on http://support.hp.com
- After the update completes, try to connect to the Internet.
