Hi:

Is your notebook's drive controller set to AHCI?

Your notebook's drive controller not being set to AHCI is the only reason I can think of as to why the driver won't install.

If your notebook's drive controller is set to AHCI, the drive controller will be listed as an Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers device manager category.

  1. Drive controller set to AHCI? You mean like changing the mode from IDE to AHCI in Bios? Because when I do that, Windows XP crashes on a Blue Screen when starting, which makes sense when there are no AHCI drivers.

So I could maybe install the drivers manually if the installer wont do it itself, the problem is that I have no idea how... I tried everything, even extracting the drivers into system32, adding new value to registry and then updating manually the drivers from device manager, the problem is that device manager doesnt see the AHCI drivers as "supported" drivers so I can't choose them and install them.
Maybe I just did one mistake and that's why it doesn't work. I just really want help from professionals like u rather than random indian guys on YouTube.

Also thank u for your fast response!!

You're very welcome.

OK, so your notebook's drive controller is not set to AHCI it is in IDE model and you can't just change the BIOS setting or you get the BSOD.

You have to, as you indicated, manually install the AHCI driver, restart the PC and then immediately go into the BIOS and change the drive controller setting from IDE to AHCI, and you should be all set.

So, here is how to do that:

I have zipped up and attached the AHCI driver files below from the Intel RST exe driver on the 6930p's support page, because it will be easier for you to do it this way.

Unzip the driver I attached to its folder.

Follow this procedure to install the ACHI driver in XP:

1. Right-click the My Computer icon, click Manage, select Device Manager

2. Click the + symbol beside IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers , this would show the devices under this category.

3. You will find the SATA storage controller listed.

4. Right-click on that Storage Controller listed, and click Update Driver .

5. In Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard, select No, not this time. Click Next .

6. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) . Click Next

7. Select Don't search I will choose the driver to install . Click Next

8.. Click Have Disk

9.. Click Browse

10. Select location: c:\folder you unzipped and saved the Intel ACHI drivers to.

11. Select iaAHCI.inf

12. Click Open

13. This will list several SATA AHCI Controllers.

From this list, select the Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller. Click Next.

14. The Update Driver Warning will be shown. Click Yes, to install the driver.

15. The driver will install, and completing the Hardware update Wizard appears. Click Finish

16. You can find the updated controller in the device manager.

17. During restart, press the F10 key and boot to BIOS setup utility . Go back to the storage configuration  menu and change the IDE setting to ACHI, save settings there (F10) and upon exit, save changes and reboot.

Now, the SATA driver is successfully installed and the desktop will boot into Windows with SATA Device Mode set to AHCI.

XP will load some more files and prompt you to restart the PC again.
