Change HP user-ID

Is it possible to change to user ID in HP? 

Recently, I changed the e-mail-adress, as the old one I used when I got this HP computer,  soon not will be available. However, it does not seem possible to change the user-ID in my HP account?

IF I understand your question, you want to change the account on your computer, likely because the Microsoft account you are using to log into the computer has changed and the disparity between the login and the name of the account on the computer is bothersome.

The following has been typed "on the fly" - the content may include weird sentence structure, oddities, or even errors.  Be aware...

What to do?

You can indeed change the login but the results may not be to your liking - changing the account and / or renaming the folder doesn't really change the account credentials.  What you do depends on what you want (need).

Original Data - Make Backups

In your original account, make a backup of all your data that is most important to you.  Back up your personal data to another disk, to the cloud, to a USB stick, "somewhere" you can access the data if everything goes sideways.  If you can do so, also make a backup of the AppData folder - you likely won't need it, but it is very good  have it around "just in case".  There is perhaps a bunch of data in this folder - check the size and then decide on a backup location.

Instead, create a new account on the computer - after the account is created, be sure to "edit" the account and change the account type to "Administrator".  Use a decent password since this will be your new account, though you don't have to (yet) use your golden, secret, favorite password.

Local Or Microsoft Account?

If you want control over the name of the folder that controls your account, create the new account first as a "Local account".  Although Windows balks a bit and complains, creating a local account is still possible AND gives you the opportunity to name the account (and therefore the top level folder in your account) as you like instead of having some weird bits pulled from your Microsoft email to name the folder).

If like, change the option to log into the account using your Microsoft Account.

The name of your top level folder will remain as originally created under the local account.  Magic.

Assuming you have created your new account as "Admin", you can now COPY your folders and files over from the "old" account.   Do not use "move" unless you must do so:  Move works and most of the time it won't lose your data.  If you have a choice, use Copy.  As you copy the files, they will be owned by the "new" you.

After you are sure you have a folder and it's contents copied to the new account (AND because you did make backups), you can (if you need the disk space) delete the old folder.  Check all the data in the "new" folder location before deleting the old stuff.  For example, when you copy over your photos, make sure you have all the "sub-folders", too.  Note that "big" folders must be removed (deleted) permanently since the Recycle bin is limited in size and structure.

There may be "holes", of course, some of the stuff in your AppData folder hierarchy won't (need not) be copied to the new account.  In most cases, the data in this special folder hierarchy remakes itself when you start using the new account.  A few things may need to be re-done (certain Firefox / Chrome settings, for example).

Assuming you have copied what you can and that when you installed software you did install that software for "all users", things like the Printer and Office Word should work (though you may want to go in and change any storage locations / features that are different due to the folder name change).

If you had not yet done so, after you have your data copied to the "new" account, (you may opt to) set the login to use your (new) Microsoft account email login.  Using Microsoft to log in means all your Windows "stuff" will work without having to sign in separately to the various features (Windows Store, for example).

Do not remove / delete / disable your "old" account until you are happy with the new setup.  At some point, assuming everything "goes along as expected", do take the leap of faith and remove the old account just to keep things neat, clean, and up-to-date.

• Log into the community
• If you are not already on your "home page" (your profile and personal information), click and hold on where it says "Hi, Annette2"
• Select Settings
• Click the small printed line that says, Update your account details
• Under Account Information click to edit your email and / or other information
