I'm wanting to change my function buttons from having to use the FN button to not needing it at all.

I went into the BIOS to do so, saved it, and restarted my computer. The function buttons did not update / change at all. Is there another way I could be able to do this? Should I try updating the BIOS?

NOTE: I've noticed that my mouse still has it's laser light on when it's shutdown. Could it be because of that? If so, how do I get this laptop to shutdown fully?

NOPE.

Now I don't need to use the Fn key to use them? I guess if anyone else is having the same issue, just mess with it. It's working for me now.

Hi @SethTooQuick,

Welcome to HP Forums,

As I understand, you're in need of support

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Was it working fine before?

Let's perform these troubleshooting steps:

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Once completed, please check with the keyboard. Make sure hotkeys in BIOS are disabled.

Keep me posted!

Have a great day 🙂

Sorry for the late reply. I've been too lazy to actually try it.

I did what you told me to do and it still didn't do anything. In the BIOS, the Action Keys are set to Enabled and whenever I save and exit it doesn't update.

I did try updating the BIOS a few days ago to see if that'd fix it but I couldn't. It just said it couldn't validate it or something.

So I called and it seems you can't change them through the BIOS for some reason. You'd have to do something with the laptop itself I think. Pretty inconvienent ;/
