Hi guys

Recently I bought the G5 USB-C Docking to work from home. Currently the dock does not seem to work with my G8 EliteBook. When plugged in, there is no signal and the battery will not be charged. All firmware and BIOS version are up to date.
When I connect a Dell laptop or a USB-C iPhone, the docking immediately turns on and powers the device. So the dock itself works and the cable is fine. I tested other devices and cables on my 840 G8, the ports seem to be working as well. I can't even see the docking in the Thunderbolt control center. Something is off. BIOS is set to factory, all ports are enabled.

I don't know what else I can be working on.. any of you guys have any tips?

Hello 5cg304zygm,

Thank you for posting your concern,

If your HP G5 USB-C Docking Station is not working with your HP EliteBook G8 despite being updated with the latest firmware and BIOS, but works with other devices, there may be some compatibility or configuration issues. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem:

  1. Compatibility Check:
Ensure that the G5 USB-C Docking Station is compatible with your EliteBook G8. Sometimes docks are optimized for specific generations of laptops.

  2. Power Delivery and Signal:
Check if the USB-C port on your EliteBook supports power delivery and video signal. Not all USB-C ports have the capability to deliver power and support video output.

  3. BIOS Settings:
Access your BIOS settings to confirm that USB-C settings are properly configured. Some systems have settings that control the behavior of USB ports.

  4. Connection Order:
Try connecting the dock to your EliteBook after it has powered on. Sometimes the order in which devices are connected can influence detection.

  5. HP Support Assistant:
Run the HP Support Assistant to see if it detects and suggests any specific software updates or drivers for the dock with your EliteBook.

  6. HP Technical Support:
Given that it works with other devices and all updates are current, contacting HP Support directly might be necessary for in-depth troubleshooting specific to your device configuration.

If after trying all these steps the problem persists, there might be an issue specific to the EliteBook's hardware or settings that requires further assistance from HP Support.
