When computer goes into sleep mode, it beeps every 2-3 seconds and continues until I wake it up. If I'm wearing my BT earpiece, the sound comes over that, otherwise over the system speaker.
I've found that if I unplug my corded mouse, the beeping stops. Mouse has no on/off switch so I can't turn it off. I tried turning it over and that does nothing to stop the beeping. I've followed the advice from several web posts and none of them have helped. I even followed a post from this forum and it did not work because the options it said I should choose from don't exist.
The ONLY solution I've found is to unplug the mouse but I'm afraid that over time it will wear out the rather flimsy mousy cord or the plug. And, come on, I shouldn't have to unplug my mouse every time I leave my computer for more than a couple minutes. Yes, I realize I could tell my computer to never go into sleep mode but that's not the right solution either.

Hi @FarmerTom0,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
The beeping sound you hear when your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 goes into sleep mode, especially when it is related to your corded mouse, could be due to several factors such as USB power settings, BIOS settings, or driver issues. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve this issue:
1. Update USB and Mouse Drivers
- Update Drivers:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- Right-click your mouse and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Repeat the same for Universal Serial Bus controllers.
2. Change Power Management Settings
Power Management for USB Devices:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click on each USB Root Hub, select Properties, and go to the Power Management tab.
- Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Disable USB Selective Suspend:
- Press Windows + X and select Power Options.
- Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand USB settings and then USB selective suspend setting.
- Set it to Disabled.
3. Update BIOS
- Check for BIOS Updates:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your laptop model and check for BIOS updates.
- Download and install any available BIOS updates following the instructions provided by HP.
Kindly check the next steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @FarmerTom0,
Please find the next steps below.
4. Disable Wake Timers
- Disable Wake Timers:
- Press Windows + X and select Power Options.
- Click on Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand Sleep and then Allow wake timers.
- Set it to Disable.
5. Check BIOS Settings
- Enter BIOS Setup:
- Restart your computer and press Esc, F10, or another designated key (varies by model) to enter BIOS setup.
- Look for settings related to USB devices and power management.
- Ensure there are no settings enabled that could cause the mouse to wake the computer or behave differently in sleep mode.
- Save changes and exit the BIOS.
6. Try Another Mouse
- Test with Another Mouse:
- If possible, try using a different corded mouse or a wireless mouse to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your current mouse.
7. Check for System Updates
- Windows Updates:
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Update & Security.
- Check for updates and install any available updates.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may be a more complex hardware or firmware issue. Contact HP Phone Support for further assistance.
