Hello
I'm sure this has been asked before but when I select sleep from the shut down options or press the power button, nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong? I just got a HP Omen about a month ago and have not been able to fix this problem on my own.

Hi @RealFaker,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Omen computer is not staying asleep when you select the sleep option or press the power button, it can be quite frustrating. There could be several reasons why this is happening. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue.
Check Power Settings:
- Go to the Control Panel or Settings (depending on your Windows version).
- Click on "System" or "System and Security" and then "Power & sleep" (Windows 10/11).
- Ensure that your power plan is set to "Balanced" or a similar setting that supports sleep mode.
- Click on "Change plan settings" and then "Change advanced power settings." Verify the sleep settings and make sure they are set correctly.
Update Drivers:
- Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause sleep issues. Visit HP's official website and download the latest drivers for your computer, especially those related to power management and chipset drivers.
Disable Wake-On-LAN:
- Wake-On-LAN (WoL) can wake up your computer from sleep. To disable it, go to your network adapter's properties and uncheck the option that says "Allow this device to wake the computer."
Check for External Devices:
- Disconnect any external devices (e.g., keyboard, mouse, USB devices) to see if one of them is triggering your computer to wake up.
Check Scheduled Tasks:
- Scheduled tasks or updates can wake up your computer. Check your Task Scheduler for any tasks that might be set to wake the computer from sleep.
Update BIOS/UEFI:
- Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your HP Omen computer. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve power management issues.
Run Power Troubleshooter:
- Windows includes a built-in Power Troubleshooter that can help identify and fix power-related issues. Run this troubleshooter to see if it can identify the problem.
Check for Background Processes:
- Sometimes, background processes or applications can prevent your computer from going to sleep. Check your task manager for any active processes that might be preventing sleep.
Malware Scan:
- Malware or viruses can interfere with your computer's sleep mode. Perform a full malware scan using a reputable antivirus program.
Reset Power Settings to Default:
- You can reset your power settings to default by opening an elevated Command Prompt (Run as Administrator) and entering the command: powercfg -restoredefaultschemes.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date with the latest Windows updates as Microsoft often releases fixes for power management issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
