My computer will charge while it is shut down but not while it is powered on. This has been a persistent issue since early April. I have replaced the DCN charging port and the issue still persists. Computer and drivers are up to date; tried uninstalling driver for "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery". I have tried other chargers and the same issue occurs. I have checked the health of the battery in the BIOS (revision F.26), and it came back normal. Attempted to do an in-place upgrade but could not as a result of the charging issue and lack of battery stamina. Separately, under system properties, my user profile's size shows a question mark "?". I am not sure if these two issues are related/connected to each other. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@faithl0wry, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing a persistent and frustrating issue with your Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop where it won't charge while powered on, but charges normally when shut down. You've already done some excellent troubleshooting steps, including replacing the DC-in charging port, updating drivers, trying different chargers, and checking the battery health in the BIOS. The issue with your user profile size showing a "?" is also noted.
Here are some steps we can try to resolve this:
Correct Adapter Insertion
Follow these steps carefully:
- Inspect the adapter barrel connector and DC jack for any debris or damage.
- Insert the adapter smoothly and fully in one continuous motion, avoid pausing midway.
- Wait for a charging notification or sound to confirm connection.
- Check the Power & Battery status in the Windows taskbar to confirm charging.

Reset Embedded Controller (EC)
Perform a power reset:
- Shut down the laptop.
- Unplug the charger.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the charger and power on.
BIOS Update (if not already done)
Ensure you're on the latest BIOS version (F.26 or newer):
- Go to HP Software & Driver Downloads
- Enter your product: Victus 16-r0000
- Download and install the latest BIOS.
Battery Driver Reinstall (Optional)
You’ve already tried this, but for completeness:
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Batteries
- Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery > Uninstall
- Restart the laptop (Windows will reinstall it)
About the User Profile Size Showing "?"
This is likely unrelated to the charging issue but could indicate:
- Corrupted user profile
- Disk errors or file system issues
Try running:
sfc /scannow
from an elevated Command Prompt to check for system file corruption.
If the issue persists despite correct adapter insertion and EC reset, it may indicate a motherboard-level fault or EC firmware issue. In that case, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
Kindly follow this link to locate the nearest HP service center: HP® Service Center Locator - United States | HP® Support

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

It sounds like a hardware level power delivery issue, possibly with the motherboard or power IC. I recommend a full hardware diagnostic (including motherboard), and backing up data in case repair or reinstallation becomes necessary.
